More than 13,000 Bangladeshis—an all-time high—studying in USA

There are an all-time high number of Bangladeshi students enrolled in U.S. colleges. According to the 2023 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, the U.S. Embassy stated that 13,563 Bangladeshi students chose to study in the United States during the 2022–2023 academic year on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Despite a 28% increase over the previous academic year (2021–2022), the current participation of Bangladeshi students in the U.S. ranks among the highest in the world. With 2,500 students taking in undergraduate (bachelor’s and associate’s degree) programs, Bangladeshi undergraduate students increased by more than 50%. With around 10,000 graduate students participating in American universities, Bangladesh ranks sixth internationally for graduate student enrollment.

Bangladeshi students who study in the U.S. have risen by more than 300% in the last ten years, increasing from 3,314 in the 2011–2012 session to 13,563 in the 2022–2023 academic year. Every year, the Institute of International Education and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs interact to release the Open Doors Report, which counts the number of foreign students enrolled in pre-academic intensive English programs and international students studying at U.S. universities. More than one million foreign students studied in the United States overall, and enrollment has recovered to levels similar to those before the pandemic. The greatest increase of foreign students studying in the US in forty years occurred throughout the 2022–2023 school year.

We are happy to see that a growing percentage of Bangladeshi students are deciding to pursue higher education in the United States. Bangladeshi students continue to achieve remarkable things in American universities, from conducting ground-breaking research to enhancing campus life with cultural events. stated Peter Haas, the US ambassador. In honor of International Education Week 2023, the U.S. Embassy is providing Bangladeshi students and scholars with many online and in-person information sessions regarding the application process for U.S. higher education, various academic program options, funding and scholarship opportunities, and U.S. government-sponsored academic and professional exchange programs.
