The recent clashes among students at Dhaka and City Colleges highlight a troubling trend in academic environments, where tensions can escalate into violence, disrupting the educational experience for all. This two-day class suspension serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for effective conflict resolution strategies and a greater emphasis on fostering dialogue among students.
After a short break, clashes between students of Dhaka College and Dhaka City College began again around 2 p.m. The clashes began around 11:45 a.m. when a group of Dhaka College students attacked Dhaka City College students and vandalised their campus. Police took position at the scene to control the situation. However, students attacked the police as well. Though agitators left the spot for some time around 1:20 p.m., they again returned to the spot around 2 p.m.
Ultimately, this situation calls for a collective commitment to building a more harmonious academic community that values diversity and promotes peaceful coexistence.
